1348 General Summary The Assistant Director of Library Services manages the library programs and services offered to the students. The individual in this position will ensure the library is effective and efficient, create new initiatives and policies for the library, and plan the administration of the overall functioning of the library services program while focusing on student success. This role is integral in providing technical guidance and administration over library staff and coordinates all activities to meet curriculum needs and incorporate the college’s mission. Duties & Responsibilities Manage all library material: collections of books, serial publications, documents, magazines, newspapers, Internet resources, and other resource materials, as well as aid groups and individuals in locating and obtaining requested materials, including inter-library loan requests. The Assistant Director oversees the collection development, maintenance, and analysis tasks and contributes a strategic perspective to ensure that policies and procedures align with the mission of the College
Partner with IT Support Services to identify and develop strategies to enhance the library user experience. Works in collaboration with faculty and senior leadership to provide integrated services to the college community
Staff the service desk, offer targeted instructional support as needed, communicate regularly with faculty and students about the library’s general collections, build relationships with colleagues and constituents
Prepare and monitor the departmental budget, library finances, including budgeting for acquisitions and programming.
Supervise and participate in daily circulation activities, including check-outs, returns, holds, and account management.
Oversee course reserves, interlibrary loan (ILL), and stacks maintenance.
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise a team of student workers and part-time workers.
Design and deliver research instruction and information literacy programs in collaboration with faculty, supporting course-integrated learning and independent student work. Foster a welcoming, service-oriented, and intellectually vibrant environment for a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
Research learning resources and assist with proposals for grant funding opportunities.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in any field.
Minimum of three years of experience in customer service or library support role.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating the work of student employees, interns, or part-time staff.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Broad understanding of library operations and the roles of all library staff.
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in library service delivery.
