POSITION SUMMARY:

Crawford County Library District is seeking a part-time library clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate is innovative and engaged to help us move forward with our mission of being a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of Crawford County, Missouri. This position is located at the Bourbon branch and provides customer service and supports library circulation operations. This position will be approximately 15 hours per week on average, including working every other Saturday.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Library Clerk is under the direct supervision of the Branch Manager.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to, supports, and implements Crawford County Library District overall core values and board policies and procedures
  • Interprets library policies to patrons
  • Attends meetings as scheduled by the Branch Manager
  • Provides reference and reader advisory services to patrons as well as assisting patrons with use of digital devices
  • Assists with cataloging
  • Oversees all responsibilities of the circulation desk.
Performs the following activities:

check library materials in and out; shelve books correctly and in a timely manner; contacts patrons with overdue materials and materials on hold; issue library cards to patrons and renew cards as needed; maintain a neat, clean appearance of all library materials, including shelves, workstations, and public access areas; follow routine procedures, answer telephone as needed

  • Submits patron book requests to the Branch Manager
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the circulation portion of the library automation system
  • Keeps up to date with changes to the system
  • Maintain confidentiality of patron records and sensitive information
  • Attends training workshops and other continuing education opportunities that relate to job duties
  • Assists in the implementing of library programing
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties require extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, and talking or hearing. Duties require occasional periods of climbing or balancing, pushing/pulling items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Weights up to 50 pounds are encountered. Vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability of adjust focus. Hazards are considered minor and controllable, but may include exposure to human error and angry/hostile humans. Must be able to transport oneself to work-related meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma and one (1) year of recent experience in general clerical and/or customer service duties, preferably in a library.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment, including computers
  • Filing methods and recordkeeping to maintain accurate information in alphabetical, chronological, and/or numerical order, and standard library clerical practices
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Providing efficient customer service and communicating clearly and objectively both verbally and in writing
  • Understand and apply relevant Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
  • Maintain an effective public image of the library
  • The ability to identify problems and create solutions
  • Strong knowledge of technology
  • Use patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with the public
  • Ability to prioritize projects and work assignments of efficient results
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Ability of multitask efficiently
  • Operate office equipment, computer systems, and other current technology Required Licenses or Certification
  • Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License
  • Pre-employment Drug/Alcohol testing and Background check is required.
