DEFINITION
  • Under the direction of the Circulation Manager, assist library patrons in using library materials and services. In the absence of the Circulation Manager, the position is responsible for the daily operation of the Circulation Department. WORK SCHEDULEMonday 9am
  • 2pm, Tuesday 9am
  • 6pm, Wednesday
  • Friday 10am
  • 5pm, Saturday 10am

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Arrive promptly. (This position is a keyholder required to arrive promptly to open the building on time.
  • Check out materials using the automated circulation system
  • Check in all materials returned each day using the automated circulation system and reshelve them daily
  • Register new library patrons using the automated circulation system
  • Handle fines and fees
  • Contact patrons if needed to return overdue materials
  • Assist patrons in a friendly and courteous manner with library services
  • Enter requests for books found in the automated circulation system, and send request cards for books not in the library’s online catalog to the Extension Department promptly. Notify the patron when the material arrives for them.
  • Assist patrons with library equipment, including all programs offered on the public access computers
  • Empty the drop box daily, check in books located at Percy library, and call other branches to notify them if their books have been returned to Percy
  • Respond promptly to requests for materials made by the Branch Libraries
  • Read shelves regularly to make sure books are in the correct order according to the generally accepted library arrangement
  • Other miscellaneous duties include mending books, replacing color-grading tape on children’s books as needed, helping make copies for patrons, etc
  • Other duties as requested or needed
IN THE ABSENCE OF THE CIRCULATION MANAGER
  • Open the library as scheduled
  • Keep statistics and prepare monthly reports to be submitted to the Headquarters Library by the 10^th^ of each month
  • Complete semi-monthly timesheets for self#
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working in a public library is desired.
  • A High School diploma is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND

ABILITIESMust have basic computer skills including computer maintenance and use of web browser and Microsoft Office; a general knowledge of library methods and procedures; knowledge of books and their contents; knowledge of book classification and arrangements; knowledge of library rules and regulations; knowledge of and ability to maintain discipline; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to interpret library resources and services to the public and to the general community.

Must be able to lift to 30 lbs.
