DESCRIPTION BENEFITS QUESTIONS

Job Purpose Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL’s values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs to library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Public Services Manager. This position is a part-time, 25 hours per week, benefitted position requiring one evening per week and weekend rotation. The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members. Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB

Promote ACPL’s values and mission. Follow and enforce established library policies and procedures. Work all public service desks at May Memorial Public Library and other branches as needed. Assist with the maintenance of library collections. Assist patrons through reference interactions, reader advisory inquires and in the use of technology and online resources. Increase skills and knowledge through professional reading, workshops and webinars.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Make new library cards for patrons. Help patrons locate items (in our library or at a branch) Check materials in and out on patron accounts, empty book returns. Organize returned items in alphabetical or numerical order in preparation to be re-shelved. Shelve library materials. Receive payments for fines and fees. Assist patrons with the Self-Check-out. Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff. Call and write up holds, pull messages. Take responsibility for the appearance of the library, including the condition of shelves and displays. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Possess a strong commitment to provide excellent customer service including the ability to provide customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members. Possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers. Possess strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly and confidently. Possess a willingness to learn library trends, local community happenings, literature and popular reading trends. Possess the ability to take initiative in developing solutions to perceived issues and present plans to supervisor. Ability to plan, coordinate and direct work. Ability to create a pleasant, helpful environment. Skills & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

High School diploma required; some college is preferred. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Proficient in written and verbal communication is required Ability to stand for extended periods of time, reach the top and bottom of shelves, lift 40lbs as well as push and pull loaded book carts is required Ability to speak Spanish is preferred Previous library experience is preferred Previous customer service experience is preferred Computer Skills Prior experience with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, basic internet searching and social media is required Ability to learn library technology is preferred License/Credentials None

Changes to elections can then be made during the annual open enrollment period, usually in the fall, or within 30 days of a qualified life event (marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, change in child’s dependent status, death of a spouse or other dependent and other change in employment status). Part-time insurance rates are structured based on hours worked. Alamance County Government currently offers three plans of medical/pharmacy benefit options including a COPAY Plan 70, COPAY Plan 80 and a QHDHP with HSA. Dental & Vision Insurance – A voluntary dental (Delta Dental) and vision program (Superior Vision) is available to PT employees. The current PPO style plan allows employees to be provided access to dental and vision providers for a variety of services. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of PT employment. Coverage must be elected within your first 30 days of PT employment or upon a qualifying event. Retirement Benefits – Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed. If you leave the County service before retirement, you may withdraw your retirement contributions or elect to freeze your contributions in anticipation of future local government employment. If you have at least five (5) years of service, you are considered 100% vested in NCLGERS. Alamance County will be contributing a percentage as required by NCLEGRS on your behalf as well.

Monitor chronic conditions (Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Health Disease, Asthma, etc…) Assistance with finding a Primary Care Provider Health Education and Counseling Triage and referrals to specialists when appropriate.

Employee Fitness Center:
