Performs intermediate administrative support work at the reference desk, providing reference services, and technology assistance to public and community college patrons and performing related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Reference Librarian.

- This is not a time-limited position. This role typically works 10 to 20 hours per week.
- Essential Functions Provides reference services to public and community college patrons in person and by phone, email, and chat;
Assists patrons with computers and mobile devices and troubleshoots as necessary;
Instructs patrons in the use of the library catalog, databases, OverDrive / Libby, and other library resources; Processes interlibrary loan requests and keeps accurate records of interlibrary loan activity;
Assists patrons with library equipment, including printers, copiers, and scanners;
Provides reader’s advisory services and assists patrons with locating materials;
Assists with marketing the collection by creating and maintaining themed displays;
May assist with computer classes and other programs as needed;
Serves as backup at the circulation desk as needed;
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and experience in library work or other public service work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will have previous library work experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of basic library functions and procedures;
Strong technology skills, including experience with computers and mobile devices, Microsoft Office applications, and internet and database searching, and the ability to instruct others in their use;
Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing;
Strong problem-solving skills;
Ability to exercise initiative and work independently;
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, department heads, peers, associates, and the general public. Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, handling, feeling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work involves possible exposure to dust; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
