Cumberland County Public Library is looking for a friendly and resourceful Library Associate to join our motivating team. In this role, you’ll help customers with various service points, offering assistance with finding materials, using library resources, and exploring our innovative programs. Examples of Duties Staffs a public services point Performs proactive reference at the service desk Assists customers with information and technology resources Performs basic troubleshooting of library equipment and trains others in the use of resources and equipment Assist customers with self-services checkout and account information at Circulation desk to include cash, check, and assist others with online credit card transactions May go to the bank to pick up change for the change machine and/or cash register Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and two (2) years of relevant public library experience or progressive customer relations experience in the public sector; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of library procedures, collection management, library systems and services Knowledge of readers’ advisory methods and sources Knowledge of library card registration requirements Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with co-workers and general public Ability to instruct customers on the use of equipment to include photocopiers, fax, public computer reservation software, and self-checkout as needed and where applicable Ability to provide basic library information services and other customer assistance Skill in effectively searching and navigating the online public catalog Ability to use computers, competently manipulate keyboard and spell accurately Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, online public computer catalogs (OPACs), and navigate the Internet and specialized library databases to find information Ability to initiate basic troubleshooting procedures on a variety of computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines Ability to organize work and coordinate activities. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
