Library Associate/ Youth Services POS#117000194 Cumberland County – 2.8 Fayetteville, NC Job Details Full-time $40,886.59 a year 2 days ago Qualifications Entry level Integrated library system Full Job Description JOB Cumberland County Public Library is seeking a service-oriented and enthusiastic Library Associate in the youth services division to join our team. As part of county government, the library serves the citizens of Cumberland County and surrounding communities by providing access to informational and recreational materials in a variety of formats, along with innovative programs and services that meet diverse community needs. The position provides customer assistance at multiple service points, helping patrons locate information and select materials. This role requires independent judgment and strong interpersonal skills.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Under the direction of a librarian, assists customers (of all ages) in person, by phone, virtually and at various public service desks where information and readers’ advisory service is requiredPlans, coordinates, and presents age-appropriate in-person and virtual programs for library customers ages birth through age 18 (both inside and outside the library) under the direction and supervision of a librarianOrients and instructs the public in developing search strategies to find needed information and trains the public in the use of these strategies, including keyword, browsing and Boolean searchingAssists customers with information and technology resourcesPerforms basic troubleshooting of library equipment and trains others in the use of resources and equipmentProvides one-on-one instruction and reader’s advisory services for customers.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge of library policies and procedures, collection management, library systems and servicesKnowledge of readers advisory and reference methods and sources, in print and electronic formatsAbility to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with co-workers and general publicAbility to develop and present programs for specific age groups as assignedAbility, knowledge and judgment to provide basic library information services and other customer assistanceAbility to instruct customers on the use of equipment to include, but not limited to photocopiers, fax, scanners, public computer reservation software, printers, sound system, laptop computers and self- checkoutSkill in effectively searching and navigating the online public catalog.
