POSITION SUMMARY
We seek a highly motivated and dependable Library Assistant to join our Technical Services team. This entry-level position is ideal for a candidate with a college degree eager to learn the processes of cataloging library books, managing materials, and supporting day-to-day technical services operations. While prior library experience is preferred, it is not required. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, demonstrate strong learning abilities, and be capable of training student workers and volunteers to assist with routine tasks in technical services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the cataloging and processing of library materials, ensuring accuracy and adherence to cataloging standards.
Track and manage library materials, including checking and updating periodicals.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail for the library and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Maintain accurate records of material usage and manage the library’s collection effectively.
Assist in the training and oversight of student workers and volunteers to complete daily tasks.
Learn and use library technology systems and software efficiently to support daily operations.
Accept feedback and collaborate with colleagues to improve processes and enhance services.
Participate in ongoing training opportunities to develop new skills and stay up-to-date with library technologies and best practices.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (no prior library experience required, but preferred).
Strong ability to learn and adapt to new technology systems/software.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Willingness to accept feedback and improve work practices.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to train and collaborate with others.
A positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and grow professionally.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit. Physical strength and ability to move up to 30 pounds of materials at one time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
