Job Description
The Champlain Island Unified Union School District is seeking a 1.0 Library/Media Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year and beyond. This position will act as a member of a team of educators and other support personnel throughout our school buildings. Candidates must be team players willing to work collaboratively to ensure all members of the learning community are curious, creative, courageous, and capable of pursuing their aspirations in a diverse and ever-changing world. CIUUSD is located in the Champlain Islands region of Vermont and is part of the greater Burlington area. We operate two k-6 campuses consisting of 210 students total. Our middle and high school students have “choice” and receive a voucher to attend an independent or public middle or high school which best meets the student’s needs.
We are an easy commute from Burlington and are located about 1.5 hours from Montreal or under 4 hours from Boston. Our region is known for breathtaking views and access to Lake Champlain, boating, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor opportunities. This job involves both teaching library/media skills as well as maintaining the libraries in the CIUUSD schools. See below for a list of descriptive statements in the skill areas needed for this position.
A. Learning and Teaching –
~Performs the duties of information specialist, teacher, and instructional consultant as a specialist in learning literacy resources and strategies.
~Collaborates with teachers to integrate research, information retrieval skills, and literature appreciation into the curriculum.
~Utilizes current research and methods in the areas of technology, library and information resources, and learning and teaching.
~Uses a variety of materials and activities to stimulate and maximize learning to help students achieve educational and personal goals.
B. Information Access
~Creates and maintains a collection development process which includes such aspects as maintaining accurate and current catalogs and records, weeding, and inventories.
~Provides leadership in adhering to established policies, laws, principles of intellectual freedom and ethical behavior.
~Selects and provides resources and technologies needed to integrate and produce authentic learning experiences.
~Maintains on-site technology inventory.
C. Program Administration
~Develops short and long-range goals to guide the development of the library program including technology.
~Promotes the library media program, services, and its materials by maintaining a positive relationship with students, staff and community.
~Evaluates library media programs, services, facilities, and materials to ensure optimum use.
~Coordinates on-site state testing.
~Develops and implements policies and procedures to accommodate a “mixed” environment with classes scheduled for regular times and flexible access for staff and students when students are free to come and go from the library as needed.
~Prepares and oversees a library media program budget which reflects the needs of the entire school community.
