Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Student Support Services and Upward Bound, the employee will teach classes to high school participants as part of Wallace Community College Upward Bound summer program.
SALARY:
BS degree earns $18.92, and MS degree earns $23.59 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Part-time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment which are sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and instructional needs of the College. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Student Services. Instructional Supports the TRIO Program by assisting participants with their academic studies. Revise and/or create subject specific lesson plans aligned with UB’s academic summer program theme.
Select materials for themed designed courses based on UB staff recommendations.
Develop and submit lesson and assessment plans.
Deliver courses geared towards generating excitement for learning, as well as developing concrete academic skills in UB participants.
Provide course content in a manner that helps UB participants to have a head start on their upcoming fall course work (for Math, Science, English only).
Maintain order in the classroom (in-person or virtual), monitor, record, and report students’ performance on a weekly basis.
Provide appropriate classroom management (in-person or virtual) for 9th-12th graders.
Maintain student records in a secure and confidential manner.
Complete formative and summative evaluations for each student in class(es).
Chaperone and participate in field trips.
Attend UB staff orientations, weekly meetings, and post-summer meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Reporting. Assess participants’ academic performance. Provides the Director and UB staff with data relating to participation, contacts, grades, workshops, etc. for reporting purposes to U.S. Department of Education.
Consults with TRiO Staff regarding progress of project participants.
Operates computer using specialized software and various office equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Reports to work on time at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours. Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.

Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
Demonstrates a considerate, friendly, respectful and constructive attitude toward fellow employees and students.
Adheres to all College and System policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area from an accredited college or university is required. Alabama teaching licensure (for Math, Science, English/Reading) is required. One year of teaching experience, or at least 18 hours graduate semester hours (with a 3.0 GPA or better) in content area is required. Experience with ACT preparation and developing and writing effective lesson plans is required. Experience working with low-income, first-generation clientele in a secondary or postsecondary educational setting is required. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the College. Applicants must travel at their own expense for interviews that are conducted in person. Letter(s) must include employment dates and job title and be on official letterhead with an authorized personnel signature. If an employment verification cannot be obtained, i.e. business is no longer in operation, an applicant may submit a copy of appointment letters or contracts or pay stubs or W-2 forms to verify a minimum of three years experience. Appropriate transcript identifying the applicant, institution, date degree conferred and verifying the applicant has received the minimum required Bachelor’s degree rom an accredited institution. (A copy of the diploma will not suffice).
