II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
To provide direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable students to develop literacy skills. To coach teachers on methods of teaching reading and on assessing and improving reading curricula for the growth and development of students.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
– Bachelor’s Degree. Type A, B, C or Level 1, 2, or 3. Louisiana teaching certificate. State certification as Reading Teacher and/or Reading Specialist. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.
IV. KEY SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS
Defines specific goals and develops sound strategies to accomplish instructional objectives. Communicates clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Works effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders including certificated personnel, parents, students, administrators and external entities. Works independently or within a team. Coaches peers and facilitates instruction effectively. Develops, plans and coordinates projects. Analyzes data to track student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works cooperatively with principals, district instructional leaders, and key school staff to coordinate a school-level Response to Intervention (RTI) organizational framework to implement a tiered response to RTI process at the school level that focuses on the following: providing high quality, research-based core instruction to address the College and Career Readiness Anchor standards for reading and writing; systematically identifying students who are not succeeding in the core program; providing interventions of additional time and instructional support matched to students’ needs; monitoring progress frequently to measure effectiveness of the core instruction and interventions; and when data indicates undesirable student progress, collaborates with key school staff to revise interventions based on student evidence. Collaborates with teachers on the appropriate use of date in making educational decisions. Works collaboratively with district and school staff to coordinate the training and implementation of universal screening measures and interventions. Collaboratively plans and provides technical assistance to peers for the purpose of ensuring increased student achievement in the areas of reading and writing. Remains informed and maintains compliance with local, state, and federal laws for addressing the needs of students with learning difficulties. Interprets, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning reading and writing to district instructional leaders, principals, school staff and/or community for the purpose of communicating effectively, demonstrating objectives, expectations, and/or goals in support of the system’s initiatives. Seeks out opportunities for professional development and makes a systematic effort to conduct action-based research to enhance and improve personal proficiency. Challenges negative attitudes or practices to ensure that all students are honored, both emotionally and academically, on each campus. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external stakeholders, including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Performs other duties as requested.
