Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Education with TESOL certification. 3-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in Pre-K-12 educational settings. Training on administering MAP, ACCESS, W-APT, and WIDA Model.

Month Purpose:

To provide instructional support to English Learners and teachers so that English Learners may receive an equitable education within our rigorous curriculum. The ELD Lead Teacher assumes a site-based teacher leadership role and works with colleagues to help guide instructional decisions, develop, conduct, and support job-embedded professional learning and implementation of procedural practices.

  • Essential Job Functions of Lead Teacher:
  • Serves as the ELD teacher at assigned home school (50%)
  • Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
  • Administer WIDA assessments and provide scores to the ELD Office.
  • Teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English-to-English Learners (ELs).
  • Teach academic vocabulary to English Learners.
  • Evaluate, select, and prepare class materials based on test scores and student needs.
  • Maintain records of students’ progress in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.
  • Provide strategies to classroom teachers with English Learners in their classrooms. Collaborate with classroom teachers to maximize learning opportunities for English Learners.
  • Communicate with parents at parent-teacher conferences.
  • Participate in professional development to enhance instructional skills.
  • Other assigned duties.
    Support the use of curriculum and instructional strategies (25%)
  • Identify areas of strength and improvement of best practices for working with EL students.
  • Model and support practices or materials teachers can implement to inform and guide instructional decisions.
  • Model the use of instructional materials and strategies
  • Observe teachers’ use of practices and curriculum to provide feedback and support.
  • Provide an environment at the home site school to serve as a model for other specialists and content teachers on best practices and strategies for English learners.
    Develop and engage in the development and implementation of job-embedded professional learning and procedural practices (25%)
  • Help develop and deliver professional learning at strand sites.
  • Work with the ELD Specialist and Lead Teacher team to identify needs for procedural practices.
    Serve on curriculum writing, data, and professional development team (Extended Contract 5-days)
  • Work with the ELD Specialists and other ELD Lead Teachers.
