POSITION SUMMARY

The primary function of a teacher is the instruction, care, and discipline of students. The teacher is the facilitator of learning for students in 3rd Grade and is responsible for teaching skills and concepts that will enable students to function more successfully in contemporary society at the following levels: physically, intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possess proper certification and current licensure (Class “A”) for the position as required by the Mississippi Department of Education in the field of instruction to which he/she is assignedHave met other qualifications and requirements as established by the school district

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works closely with administration and staff to develop an appropriate instructional programDevelops instructional lessons that align with the teaching assignment and consistent with adopted curriculumPlans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all studentsEstablishes appropriate plans for substitute teachers.

Works with specific program and special education staff to best serve the educational needs of all studentsAttends IEPs and/or 504 meetings as requiredCreates an environment that is conducive to learningDevelops reasonable rules of classroom behaviorCommunicates expectations regarding student behavior to student and parent/guardianMonitors progress and interprets evaluation results of students on a regular basis and provide appropriate progress reports.

Maintains accurate and completes records as required by law and Board policyAttends staff meetings, serves on committees, and participates in professional development activitiesKeeps a current inventory of classroom curriculum materials, supplies, and equipmentProvides learning experiences for student aligned with their abilities and interest levels which promote high expectations for all students.

Develops daily written lesson plans containing specific performance objectivesMonitors student performance by becoming thoroughly familiar with the student’s recordsProvides a safe and orderly atmosphere conducive to learningDevelops and maintains a classroom discipline plan aligned with School Board policies and proceduresResponsible for the supervision of students inside and outside of the classroom as required by school board policyAssists in the selection of supplies, materials, textbooks, and equipment to enhance the learning environmentStrives for excellence in all school related endeavorsCooperates with local and district staff in planning and implementing system-wide goals and objectivesAttends regular and called faculty meetingsKeeps accurate records, utilizing test data to improve instruction, and provides students with feedback on completed assignmentsMaintains a current teaching certificate as required by state certification standards and local district policyMaintains good public relations with parents and studentsAssists in continuing the development of subject area curriculum objectivesMaintains flexibility and be available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day or when requested to do so under reasonable termsBe cognizant of the rules and regulations, policies, and procedures governing special education programs within the school districtBe knowledgeable of the district’s curriculum, Mississippi Curriculum frameworks, Mississippi assessment System in his/her subject area(s)Participates cooperatively in the supervision-evaluation process for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievementAssists other teachers, as needed, in the instructional processWorks collectively with other teachers in the sharing of ideas and skillsPerforms all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the principal in order to contribute to an effective school operation
