Job Description UncommonHigh School Math teachers work in grade teams and content teams topush students towards being self-guided learners. Our teachersbecome experts in their course content, and have a keen sense ofhow to motivate and inspire high school students. At the heart ofall math classes is a deep joy for mathematics. Math teachers use avariety of instructional strategies to cultivate student awarenessof how to make sense of, persevere through, and solve problems. Atthe conclusion of high school, students are prepared for academicautonomy and college preparatory work. Responsibilities 1.Instruction
- You’ll use a Math curriculum to teach content thatmay include Algebra, Geometry, or Calculus and prepares studentsfor Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.
- You’ll support students as they solve problems and thinkcritically.
- You’ll use your love of mathematics to fosterconfidence and meaningful engagement with the subject for students
- You’ll cultivate the ability to construct and justify viablearguments using reasoning, math vocabulary, tools, and postulates
- You’ll use your passion for mathematics to build a community ofself-guided learners where students feel safe, confident, andengaged.
- You’ll work with the Math department to determineacademic and engagement goals for students. 2. Data Analysis
- You’ll meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coachto analyze and respond to trends in student work samples andassessments.
- You’ll learn and implement strategies todifferentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom. 3.School Culture
- You’ll build positive relationships with studentsto ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- You’ll partner withstudents’ families to ensure appropriate resources are available tosupport their child’s learning needs.
- You’ll engage inpractice-based professional development, mentorship, and coachingsessions.
- You’ll participate in weekly, school-wide meetings tocultivate community, model our core values, and encourage studentachievement.
- You’ll partner with your grade level team to developacademic goals and practice instructional strategies.
Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’social emotional and academic development
- An enthusiasm forcollaborating with internal and external partners in the bestinterest of students
- A self-directed learner who solicits andimplements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives

Required Experience:
- Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science,Technology, Engineering, or other related fields.
- A demonstratedinterest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools andcommunities (1-2 years experience preferred).
- Prior to the startof employment, you must have a bachelor’s degree from an accreditedcollege or university.
Teacher certification is not a prerequisitefor consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ, but youdo need to meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements (afinal undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduateson or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). Allinstructional staff are required to become certified in the stateof New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginningemployment. Additional Information Our people are what make usUncommon. Compensation Compensation for this role is between $56,000 to$80,000. Starting pay is determined using various factors includingbut not limited to relevant full-time teaching experience,education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
Candidates without full-time Teaching experience will likely have astarting salary of $56,000. Benefits
