This role is for a dedicated High School Math Teacher within an educational organization focused on student success in economically disadvantaged communities. The position involves guiding students to become self-guided learners with a deep appreciation for mathematics, preparing them for advanced academic work and college.

Key Responsibilities:

InstructionUtilizing a Math curriculum to teach content, which may include Algebra, Geometry, or Calculus, and preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.

Supporting students in problem-solving and critical thinking.

Fostering confidence and meaningful engagement with mathematics among students.

Cultivating students’ ability to construct and justify arguments using reasoning, mathematical vocabulary, tools, and postulates.

Building a community of self-guided learners where students feel secure, confident, and engaged.

Collaborating with the Math department to establish academic and engagement goals for students. Data AnalysisMeeting weekly with a principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.

Learning and implementing strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners. School CultureBuilding positive relationships with students to ensure they feel recognized, valued, and heard.

Partnering with students’ families to provide appropriate resources that support their child’s learning needs.

Participating in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.

Engaging in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model core values, and encourage student achievement.

Collaborating with the grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies.

Requirements:

A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social-emotional and academic development. An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students. A self-directed learner who seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives. Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred). Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or other related fields. Prior to the start of employment, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Certification is not required at the time of hire, but candidates must meet state certification eligibility requirements. This includes enrolling in a teacher preparation program and maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if the degree is not in education. Teachers are required to become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment.

Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely have a starting salary of $50,000.
