Math Specialist Summary :
The math specialist at Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts is an integral part of our plan for student success. He/she will work closely with the administration, staff, and students to ensure that the needs of the student population are being met in the area of math. Reports to Chief Educational Officer Exempt or Non-Exempt Exempt Salary Grade and Location Salary is highly competitive and based on degree and certification 10-month in person position Insurance and 403(b) is offered to full time employees with cost based on coverage that is chosen All applicants must receive fingerprint clearance prior to starting employment. Education, Experience, and/or Certification or License Requirements Certification required; NYS Teaching Certification preferred Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred Previous experience in a leadership role or instructional coach, preferred 5 years of classroom instructional experience required Previous teaching experience in a public or private school, preferably in an urban setting; or experience working with groups of children and youth, preferably in an urban setting; within the candidate’s special skill area preferred;
Competencies Coaching:
- Coach K-2 teachers in all areas of math instruction and classroom management needed in order for math instruction to be properly executed;
- Supports K-2 teachers in the administration of diagnostic assessments of students’ math and numeracy skills;
- Utilizes coaching cycles as a form of professional development for teachers;
- Observes and provides feedback on classroom math instruction;
- Plans and executes weekly planning and data meetings with staff;
Math Knowledge and Leadership:
- Has knowledge of effective practices that motivate students to reach high academic standards;
- Stays up-to-date on the latest best practices in primary mathematics and uses this knowledge to guide the school’s math programming;
- Provides building leadership in identifying appropriate material, programs, and pedagogical techniques;
- Guides and supports curriculum development and implementation for all grade levels;
Data-Driven Practices:
- Uses data to inform and to lead teachers in next steps in math instruction;
- Leads teacher through the process of interpreting assessment results through data-driven conversations;
- Coordinates and/or executes benchmark assessments;
- Analyzes data to make recommendations for decision-making in the school’s math programming;
- Sets goals for student performance and assesses student progress;
Professional Development:
- Prepares and delivers professional learning to the staff and parents;
- Receives outside coaching support and implements suggestions at the school level;
Professional Responsibilities:
- Positively contributes as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team which includes attending regular meetings and executing initiatives discussed;
- Participates in the Academic Committee;
- Prepares reports of assessment results for the principal, assistant principal and CEO;
- Collaborates with other instructional coaches and members of the leadership team to enhance programming at RA;
- Serves as a member of the leadership and positively supports and contributes to leadership initiatives throughout the school community;
