Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy (FPCVPAA), a public charter school located in the heart of Mobile, AL provides a seven- year comprehensive academic and conservatory arts program to students in grades 6-12. Established in 2023, FPC VPAA is one of the premier arts schools in Alabama, where aspiring young artists have the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 16 pre-professional arts conservatories.

Based on the belief that creative artistry is fueled by intellectual insight, FPC VPAA prepares students for careers in visual and performing arts and/or post-secondary education by providing engaging, academically rigorous, and responsive lessons, and continuous opportunities for students to excel beyond their current ideas of creativity.

Position Description:

The math teacher will teach various math courses aligned with the Alabama Advanced Math Standards.

FPC VPAA

Math teacher will deepen students’ mastery of Mathematics. The teacher is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering instruction to students as well as providing math intervention services to smaller groups of students to meet their individual needs. The math teacher will work closely with the Academic Director and collaborate weekly with members of the Instructional Team to plan integrated units and intervention activities, plan assessments, moderate assessments and work together to promote the educational needs of their learners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach math courses that aligns with Alabama Advanced Math Standards. Teach Pre-AP and AP level math courses. Implement and deliver quality instruction to students and execute the instructional program by demanding higher-order thinking activities from students in a progressive manner. Collaborates with individual teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching. Collaborate with Academic Director to facilitate analysis of data provided by diagnostics, common assessments, and formative assessments. Continuously monitor, track, and analyze student achievement data in order to identify needed supports and strategies. Provide the differentiation and accommodations needed for the growth and success of all students; go above and beyond to ensure that all students are meeting Alabama Advanced Math standards. Serve as College and Career Mentor for assigned students. Keep families well-informed of student performance and progress. Provide feedback and guidance to students throughout the class period. Utilize Teach Like A Champion (TLAC) lesson preparation techniques for lesson preparation to improve student learning. Uphold all school policies (including but not limited to: student attendance, reporting of absence and lateness within a period, independent student transitions, assigned seats, school-wide behavior plan) within the classroom. Implement Honors and AP Level curriculum, instruction, and assessment; collaborate with Academic Director, instructional leadership team, and teachers to review and revise as necessary. In collaboration with Academic Director, identify academic priorities, and set measurable goals to achieve priorities and monitor progress towards goals. Collaborate with Director of Academic and instructional team to make instructional and assessment decisions that are strategic, intentional, and grounded in data. Collaborate with Director of Academic and instructional team to refine and develop assessments(quarterly, mid-year, and end of year) for math courses at each grade level. Collaborate with Academic Director to facilitate analysis of data provided by diagnostics, common assessments, and formative assessments. Collaborate with Academic Director and Instructional Team to continuously monitor, track and analyze student achievement data in order to identify needed supports and strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree A deep understanding of content specific and general pedagogy, Advanced Placement curriculum, Alabama Advanced Standards, and current trends and best practices in curriculum design and instruction within area of expertise. Strong record of helping students achieve academic success. Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify instruction and lesson planning.
