SUMMARY:
A teacher’s primary responsibility is to educate students in a specific subject or grade level by fully implementing the curriculum with effective instructional practices. This role encompasses creating a flexible instructional program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishing appropriate effective rapport with students, and motivating students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, in accordance with each student’s ability. Another important aspect of the teaching role involves establishing collaborative and effective relationships with parents and colleagues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or specific subject area
- Pennsylvania Teacher License or Certification for the relevant grade level/subject area
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to analyze and use data to make informed decisions
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong knowledge of curriculum design, instructional best practices, and state education standards

Core Responsibilities:
Planning and Preparation (Domain 1):
- Works closely with district leaders, school administrators, and teachers to support cohesive instructional practices and programs.
- Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and the sponsorship of student activities as required.
- Contributes to the development and improvement of curriculum materials.
- Aligns instruction with school-wide goals and standards.
- Designs formative assessments to monitor learning, and then uses the information collected to differentiate instruction.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve social, emotional, behavioral and academic issues.
- Develops engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and curriculum requirements as adopted by the Board of School Directors. Classroom Environment (Domain 2):
- Creates a safe, engaging, and organized learning space.
- Establishes and enforces classroom expectations to maintain a productive and disciplined learning environment.
- Fosters a respective and inclusive atmosphere.
- Encourages student participation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a safe and inspiring learning atmosphere in the classroom, and throughout the school environment. Instruction (Domain 3):
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, district approved programs and curriculum, and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Uses various teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
- Adapts lessons to address the unique needs of students with diverse abilities, including those with special needs or English language learners.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to meet the needs of each student.
- Uses technology and research based instructional methods to facilitate instruction.
- Includes instructionally designed learning activities that are well sequenced and require all students to think, problem solve, inquire, and defend conjectures and opinions.
- Administers tests, quizzes, and other assessment tools to evaluate student performance.
- Monitors and evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports to provide feedback to students and parents.
- Administers group standardized assessments in accordance with the district assessment program. Professional Responsibilities (Domain 4):
- Demonstrates understanding of and abides by federal, state, and local school laws and regulations; mandated programs; District policies and administrative regulations. Reviews and abides by Pennsylvania Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators.
- Interacts respectfully and collaboratively with colleagues and actively contributes in team meetings and District initiatives.
- Maintains high ethical standards and a deep sense of professionalism, focused on improving own teaching and supporting the ongoing learning of colleagues.
- Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.
- Maintains open communication with parents, guardians, and school administration.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development.
- Attends workshops, training sessions, and continuing education to stay updated on teaching methods and educational trends.
- Collaborates with colleagues to share best practices and improve teaching strategies.
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance, grades, and behavior.
- Completes administrative tasks such as preparing progress reports and meeting school deadlines.
- Respects personal property. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Maintains visibility and participates in school activities as time permits.
- Accepts responsibility for personal decisions and conduct. Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
- Performs other job-related duties as directed by administration.
- Contributes and participates in the development and implementation of student Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
- Reflects on own teaching for the purpose of improvement. Shares ideas gathered during reflection across professional learning communities to contribute to improving the practice of all.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day or beyond the working day when involved in an extended field trip or learning activity.
- Works with principals to develop and implement both school and district-wide data-driven decision-making teams who analyze data in order to continually improve the teaching-learning process.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Professional Personnel, and in accordance with the Professional Contract.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Requires ability to travel between school buildings as needed.
- Requires various levels of physical activity, including, but not limited to sitting, walking, standing, jogging, and running as it relates to the safety and supervision of students.
- Requires talking and listening: on the phone; person-to-person; and in groups.
- May require pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 40 pounds.
- May require additional time outside the work day for lesson planning, grading, and meetings.
