Under the general supervision of the School Principal, a Teacher will manage student behaviors in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.

Position Overview:

East Greenwich High School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mathematics Intervention Teacher to join our secondary education team. This position is focused on delivering targeted math instruction and academic interventions to support student achievement. The successful candidate will teach Algebra 1 with Lab, Foundations of Algebra, and Foundations of Geometry, while also providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students who need additional support to succeed in math.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruct students in foundational courses.

Deliver small-group and individualized instruction aligned with Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions under a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).Identify students needing academic intervention based on assessment data, teacher referrals, and performance benchmarks.

Design and implement strategic intervention plans using research-based instructional strategies.

Monitor student progress through formative assessments and adjust instruction as needed to support academic growth.

Collaborate closely with general education teachers, special educators, school counselors, and support staff to develop and review student intervention plans.

Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, areas of concern, and strategies for support at home.

Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives focused on improving math instruction and intervention practices.

  • Familiarity with deeper learning and high leverage instructional practices.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like, to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessional and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Performs all other duties deemed necessary by the administration.
  • Confers with parents whenever necessary.
  • Assists in the orientation of new faculty members.
  • Advises administrators and faculty on matters of student discipline.
  • Takes an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications:

Strong content knowledge in Algebra and Geometry, with an understanding of how to scaffold concepts for struggling learners.

Experience implementing Tier 2 and Tier 3 math interventions within an MTSS framework preferred.

Proficiency in using student data to guide instruction and intervention planning.

Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Commitment to educational equity and closing achievement gaps.

Preferred Experience:

Previous experience teaching math intervention or remedial math at the secondary level.

Familiarity with math intervention platforms and tools (e.g., Successmaker, Khan Academy, AIMsweb, ALEKS, i-Ready).Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple student intervention plans.
