PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Elementary Math Teacher is responsible for fostering a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills. The teacher will design and implement creative lesson plans that meet the developmental needs of students in grades K through 5. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young learners, creating a classroom culture of curiosity, collaboration, and growth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum and state/national standards. Teach foundational math concepts, including but not limited to counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, and measurement. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students with varying abilities and backgrounds. Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, manipulatives, technology, and visual aids. Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior in a positive and supportive manner. Promote a classroom environment where students feel respected, safe, and confident to ask questions and explore new concepts. Use positive reinforcement strategies to manage behavior and encourage a growth mindset. Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Provide feedback to students and parents regarding academic performance and areas for improvement. Collaborate with other educators to ensure consistent expectations and alignment in math instruction. Work closely with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure an integrated approach to student learning. Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, reports, and other channels to discuss student progress and concerns. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current on best practices in education. Supervise students during non-instructional periods (e.g., lunch, recess). Participate in school-wide activities and events, such as assemblies, field trips, and parent nights. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and classroom materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Mathematics, or a related field (required). State teaching certification for Elementary Education (required). Experience teaching elementary math (preferred). Strong understanding of elementary math concepts and the ability to break down complex ideas into manageable steps. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to use technology and educational tools to enhance learning. Patience, creativity, and a strong passion for teaching.
