The High School Special Educator should be an outstanding classroom teacher, demonstrating expertise in developing the academic, social, emotional and physical abilities of students with mild-to-moderate learning differences. Required qualities include experience in teaching middle or high school students, experience or certification in exceptional student education, and experience or certification in mathematics. Specifically, we are seeking a teacher with expertise in teaching Algebra and Geometry. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching high school students and collaborating with colleagues to deliver dynamic learning experiences. Candidates must have strong pedagogical skills and math content knowledge, as well as excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence.

JOB PURPOSE
You’ll help us ensure that our student’s academic, social and emotional needs are met. As a genuine team player, you’ll work with the High School Principal’s Office and the Academy Director to support the overall growth of students in your high school classroom. Your role will impact the organization by working collaboratively with members of the school community to support differentiated student learning, implement identified accommodations, develop intervention plans and strategies to support student success, and maintain a strong school culture.
ENGAGEMENT AND INTERACTION
Maximize the individual successes of our diverse group of learnersPlan and manage curricula, units, lessons, assignmentsAdapt to changing work prioritiesPromote the educational and social-emotional development of studentsStay up to date with educational strategies that support differentiation and student successSupport exceptional students who require academic or other support and partner with students, parents, teachers and outside professionals in developing and implementing personalized support plans.
Maintain a differentiated classroom that supports students with diagnosed learning differences as they navigate accommodated grade-level curricula as well as periodic remediation.
Create a positive school climate for students, staff, and the community by collaborating with professional peers in academic learning support and enrichment
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Interpret Neuropsychological Educational Evaluations to support students with accommodationsProvide curricular expertise in mathSupport teachers in understanding the elements of a student’s Neuropsychological Educational Evaluation and what it looks like in classroom practiceReview accommodations each trimester for assessment needsTeach whole class, individual, and small group lessonsDevelop systems to facilitate executive functioning and productivitySupport behavioural and academic intervention planning and implementationOffer highly developed presentation skillsMonitor student progress and report information (grades) in a timely mannerExercise good classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate sanctions that are clearly articulated to the studentsEncourage students to ask questions and to express their difficulties.
Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives.
PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of studentsFunction as a student achievement advocate and advisorUnderstand all elements, goals, instructional best practice strategies, embodied in the academic plan, as well as the ability to clearly articulate the plan to parents and students.
Showcase highly developed collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with othersImplement the established curriculum as described in the NBPS curriculum mapsMaintain and update curriculum maps on Atlas Rubic and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities that are in alignment with NBPS standards and the Academic PlanProvide opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and artistic forms of communication.
Develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking (refer to Bloom’s Taxonomy).Provide a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
Experience and certification in Special Education, Secondary Education, or a related field3+ years experience working in a school-settingExperience working in special and/or exceptional student education.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret psychoeducational evaluationsAbility to build rapport with school-age studentsCommitment to building an effective partnership with parents and studentsExcellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
Good cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
