Job Summary:
The middle school computer teacher is responsible for instructing students in computer science and technology-related subjects. The teacher will implement a dynamic curriculum, fostering an engaging learning environment that encourages students to explore and excel in the field of computer science. At CBS, we subscribe to a program called Project Lead the Way, a national organization dedicated to providing curriculum and training in STEM-based fields. The computer teacher is required to implement this curriculum, in part.
Responsibilities:
1.
Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive computer science curriculum for middle school students.
- Create lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and educational goals.
2.
Instruction:
- Teach computer science concepts and skills to students, covering topics such as programming and coding, digital literacy, hardware/software fundamentals, and other relevant subjects.
- Utilize various teaching methods, resources, and technology tools to enhance the learning experience.
3.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Manage student behavior and ensure a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
- Facilitate small group work, including students working actively on a daily basis.
4.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Design assessments to measure student understanding and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents, including rubrics based on small group work as well as traditional paper/pen assessments.
5.
Integration of Technology:
- Incorporate technology tools and resources into lessons to enhance learning and prepare students for the digital age.
- Stay current with advancements in technology and integrate relevant updates into the curriculum.
- Work with students on the integration of the 1-to-1 Chromebook program.
6.
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of new teaching methodologies, technology trends, and educational research.
- Participate in the school’s minimum requirements for PD.
7.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administrators to integrate computer science concepts across the curriculum.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and achievements.
Qualifications:
