TEACHING FELLOW SCOPE
Cary Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, imaginative and team-oriented Theater Teaching Fellow to work alongside a dynamic group of educators in our Fine and Performing Arts Department. The Teaching Fellows Program offers early-career teachers or individuals entering teaching from another field the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant and forward-thinking independent school community for purposes of professional exploration, engagement and growth. The Theater Teaching Fellow works with mentors to share a passion for theater arts in engaging and meaningful ways that build on the students’ natural curiosity and foster interactive, participatory and discovery learning.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
As Theater Teaching Fellow:
Work closely with Arts Department Chair to teach and support theater classes and general arts programming in a manner consistent with the mission and educational philosophies of Cary Academy. Assist the Technical Director with maintaining the theater lobby, house, stage and wings, scene shop, supply room, black box, dressing rooms, control room, Design Lab and Discovery Studio spaces to ensure the safety and comfort of students, employees, and guests. Provide technical support for internal and external events, curricular performances, extracurricular productions, and other activities and events across campus. Contribute as production team member for curricular and extracurricular productions (such as plays, musicals, concerts, and other school performances), including construction and strike. In the absence of the Technical Director, coordinate and supervise production staff, running crews and other tasks as needed. May partner with an advisor to provide personal and academic guidance to a group of student advisees. May serve as substitute teacher for other arts department members, as needed. As a

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
Relevant experience in theater arts in high school or college.
Equivalency:
Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
As Teaching Fellow:
Interest in a career in education and a strong desire to nurture the unique developmental needs of adolescents. Demonstrated history of successful collaborative and innovative endeavors. Some knowledge of theatrical technical direction and stage management. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate theater staging environments. As a

WORK SCHEDULE
Days:
In general, faculty are scheduled to work on campus Monday through Friday as determined by the academic calendar. Certain work requirements, extracurricular responsibilities, or unplanned academic calendar changes could result in a need for a temporary modification of this schedule, including work on the weekends.
Hours:
In general, faculty are expected to work Monday-Friday when school is in session, and to be present for student assemblies and to attend all team, departmental, faculty and other employee meetings. Regular working hours for full-time faculty members during each school day vary depending upon the scheduled start time in each division and meetings or activities that may be required before or after school. In addition, certain activities, including but not limited to student conferences, field trips, performances, and competitions, may occasionally result in evening and/or weekend hours as determined by a faculty member’s primary and extracurricular position responsibilities. SALARY The Teaching Fellow is a one-year position at a salary of $42,000, with opportunity to be considered for a second year based on performance and business needs.
