This role is eligible for a $5,000 bonus as well as up to $5,000for relocation expenses! New teachers start at $60,000, withMastery offering up to $82,000 based on experience and education.
Salaries range from $60,000 to $111,000, with growth opportunitiesas your career progresses.
The Opportunity:
In joining Mastery asan English Teacher you will work with your students to foster theirdevelopment in critical thinking, questioning, critiquing, andunderstanding the written word. It is well-documented that theopportunity gap in the United States is a literacy gap and bytaking on the mantle of an English Teacher you will work daily toset our students up for long-term success and ensure they get aworld-class education. As an English Language Arts teacher we knowyou love reading and writing intrinsically and have unwaveringbelief in holding the bar high for all readers. Ideally, you havefamiliarity with structured literacy instruction and you are eagerto teach the building blocks of strong reading and writingpractices. You and your students engage with robust core curriculumthat supports the science of reading, with time spent on rigorousreading and writing aligned to grade level standards. Additionally,teachers should be prepared to lead intervention courses to supportunfinished learning to ensure students have all of the skills theyneed to meet grade level and ultimately graduation requirements toset them up for post-secondary success. At Mastery we valueContinuous Improvement and want you to learn and grow in yourcraft. We utilize a team of Assistant Principals, central-officecoaches, and school-based content teams to provide every teachercoaching and feedback. We have professional development or peercollaboration time built into our staff calendar.
Duties andResponsibilities:
Commit to ongoing professional development in thespirit of continuous improvement Develop and implement rigorous andappropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments incooperation with Mastery school-based leadership and curricularresources developed by Mastery’s Central Office Academic Team Workclosely with school leaders to analyze student assessment data tomeasure progress and use data to inform instruction Collaborate ingrade level teams to discuss student work, share best practices,plan events for joy and humor, and ensure student mastery ofstandards Engage families in their children’s education by buildingrelationships and maintaining regular communication Demonstrategenuine interest, belief, and care for students’ personal andacademic success Commit to professional growth, self-reflection, areceptiveness to feedback, and a desire to continuously improve
Education, Experience, and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required witha record of personal, professional, and/or academic achievementTeacher certification – completed or in process Demonstratedexpertise in subject area Commitment to and experience working withunderserved communities Determination to drive student achievementand set high expectations for all students The ability to motivate,support, and challenge students in a student-centered,standards-driven classroom community A positive mindset and a drivefor personal excellence Solutions-oriented resiliency to respondpositively and effectively to challenges Outstanding instructionalskills driven by data and delivered through rigorous and engagingstrategies
Physical Requirements:
Ability to physically perform theessential duties of the role, and to work in the environmentalconditions required, such as: traveling to network campuses;maneuvering in office spaces (including standing, walking, sittingfor long periods of time, speaking loudly and clearly, seeing andhearing things both near and far away); stooping, kneeling,reaching file cabinets/shelves; fine finger and hand manipulationin use of computer, chalkboard, dry erase, &/or projectors;filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, and making phonecalls; sitting for up to two (2) hours looking at a computermonitor, using a keyboard/mouse, and typing.
