Join us to work hard,do good, and make a lasting difference! Job Description UncommonMiddle School Math teachers work in grade level teams to helpstudents grow towards being self-guided learners. At the heart ofall math classes is a deep joy for mathematics, and our teacherswork hard to refine their own mastery of the subject. Math teachersuse a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate the skillsand the mindset required to persevere and solve problems. At theconclusion of eighth grade, students are prepared for the academicautonomy and college preparatory focus of our high schools.
Responsibilities 1. Instruction
- You’ll teach foundational middleschool math principles such as ratio/proportions,expressions/equations, the number system, and more!
- You’ll useour in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsiveproblem-solving activities.
- You’ll motivate students to grapplewith problems and think critically about all the different possiblepaths to solving them.
- You’ll use your love of mathematics tofoster confidence and meaningful engagement with the subject forstudents. 2. Data Analysis
- You’ll meet weekly with your principaland/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends instudent work samples and assessments.
- You’ll learn and implementstrategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in yourclassroom. 3. School Culture
- You’ll build positive relationshipswith students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- You’llpartner with students’ families to ensure appropriate resources areavailable to support their child’s learning needs.
- You’ll engagein practice-based professional development, mentorship, andcoaching sessions.
- You’ll participate in weekly, school-widemeetings to cultivate community, model our core values, andencourage student achievement.
- You’ll partner with your gradelevel team to develop academic goals and practice instructionalstrategies. Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment tosupporting students’ social emotional and academic development
- Anenthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners inthe best interest of students
- A self-directed learner whosolicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieveobjectives

Required Experience:
- A demonstrated interest inimpacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 yearsexperience preferred).
- Academic expertise in Mathematics,Science, Technology, Engineering, or other related fields.
- Priorto the start of employment, you must have a bachelor’s degree froman accredited college or university.
Teacher certification is not aprerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state ofNJ, but you do need to meet NJ state certification eligibilityrequirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduatedprior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff are required to becomecertified in the state of New Jersey within a reasonable periodafter beginning employment. Additional Information Our people arewhat make us Uncommon. Our compensationphilosophy values equity & fairness and attracting & retaining toptalent. Compensation Compensation for this role is between $56,000to $80,000. Starting pay is determined using various factorsincluding but not limited to relevant full-time teachingexperience, education certifications, and tenure with UncommonSchools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experience willlikely have a starting salary of $56,000. Benefits
