The Role
As a Learning Specialist, you will work closely with subject area teachers to plan, execute, and improve dynamic lessons that are individualized so as to leverage student strengths and provide maximum results.
This is an ideal position for someone with a commitment to Special Education, a tenacious spirit, and with the belief that all students are capable of high achievement.
Instructional Leadership & Planning
Work closely with our school Principal, Department Head, and subject teachers to support students with disabilities in the classroom
Collaborate with co-teacher on modifying and differentiating lesson activities and assessments for individual groups of learners for 4 sections of Science
Contribute to curriculum and unit planning for all relevant courses
Track progress and create strategic plans and interventions to help students with disabilities and all students achieve individual learning goals.
Serve as a case manager to a small group of students by monitoring progress, communicating with families, and writing IEPs
Classroom Culture & Community Building
Build a warm, inclusive, and intellectually curious classroom culture
Hold students to high expectations for academic success and behavior, grounded in positive relationships
Use restorative practices to build classroom community and support student growth
Candidate Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree is required
At least 2 years of lead teaching experience preferred, ideally in Science at the middle school level
A deep commitment to educational equity and working with diverse learners
Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme is a plus but not required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Salary
Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is $63,960 to $106,995.
Employees hired as certified NY certified Special Education, STEM, or Spanish teachers at any campus may qualify for a one time, for a one-time sign-on bonus of up to $3,000. In addition, all Spanish-speaking teachers hired at our Sunset Yards Campus may also qualify. More details will be shared during the phone screen if we think you’re a good fit for the role.
