Job Description

Franklin Towne Charter High School, located in Philadelphia, PA, seeks a High School Italian Teacher responsible for teaching Italian courses.

Specific duties include:

(i) teaching courses in Italian language and culture (daily); (ii) monitoring applicable language and culture clubs, such as the Italian club (weekly); (iii) developing and refining the Italian language curriculum, ensuring alignment with state standards, school goals, and best practices in Italian and other language education; (iv) implementing effective instructional strategies, incorporating technology, and differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs; (v) establishing and implementing assessment measures to evaluate student learning outcomes and Italian language program effectiveness and analyzing data to inform instructional decisions and improve student achievement; (vi) collaborating with guidance counselors and support staff to provide academic and social-emotional support to students studying Italian and other world languages; (vii) cultivating positive relationships with parents, community stakeholders, and local institutions to promote the value of Italian language education and fostering partnerships that enhance students’ cultural awareness and global competence; (viii) liaising with Philadelphia Italian Consulates, Foreign Institutions, and other international entities to facilitate educational trips, cultural exchanges, and partnerships that broaden students’ perspectives and enhance their language skills; and (ix) attending additional trainings and meetings during the summer months.

Must have bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in World Cultures, World Languages, Linguistics, Cultural Studies, Education or a directly related discipline plus 2 years of experience teaching Italian in a high school or college setting.

Must also have one (1) year of experience (can be concurrent) with each of the following: (i) planning, implementing, and leading international education trips; and (ii) academic curriculum development.

Must also know (from any completed university-level coursework, seminars, workshops, or real-world, hands-on experience) current trends and research in language acquisition, linguistics, language education, intercultural competence, and global education.

Must have written and verbal fluency in Italian and knowledge of Italian culture.

Must have required clearances to work in a school setting including the Act 34 (State Criminal Clearance), Act 151 (Child Abuse), and Act 114 (FBI Clearance). All clearances must be within six months of application date.

Must provide the results of a negative TB test prior to interview.
