5037 Position Vacancy Announcement Florida A&M University’s Honors Program is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Assistant Director, Academic Support Services vacancy. Responsibilities Assisting in the direction of the Honors-in-the-Major program in support of Title III mission; Developing and submitting requested reports (e.g., Title III, University assessment); Developing/Planning, coordinating, and monitoring Honors-in-the-Major program and its activities (e.g., processes, timelines, workshops) in support of Title III mission; Preparing, coordinating, and facilitating research, presentation, and other workshops for stakeholders in support of Title III mission; Developing and maintaining an Honors-in-the-Major handbook; Developing, coordinating, and hosting a researcher/speaker series in support of Title III mission; and developing, coordinating and conducting/hosting workshops (e.g., research methods, national scholarship/fellowship/research opportunities, graduate school). Editing, organizing, and reviewing of Honors-in-the-Major thesis; Editing, organizing, and reviewing of student publications for possible inclusion in the Undergraduate Honors Journal (national, regional, local); Reviewing, recommending, and submitting student work for honors/research conferences; Planning and coordinating participants’ travel to honors/research conferences; Planning (including drafting and printing programs), overseeing, and hosting of the Honors Center activities (e.g., Fall Extravaganza, Honors Recognition Program); Monitoring the progression of Honors-in-the-Major students; Reviewing and approving student files for graduation accolades (e.g., Honors-in-the-Major); and serving as a liaison with the Office of University Scholarship Programs to identify participants for the Honors-in-the-Major program and facilitate funding opportunities for honors students; Serving as a liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Research to facilitate research and funding opportunities for honors students and Honors-in-the-major participants; Assisting with the planning and coordination of the Florida A&M University Undergraduate Research Symposium; Serving as a liaison with the Office of Transfer Student Services to identify potential honors transfer students; Assisting the Director in establishing articulation agreements with state colleges; Serving as a liaison with colleges/schools, departments/divisions, staff, and students to endorse and boost (1) honors course offerings and (2) participation in the Honors-in-the-Major program; Assisting in fulfillment of Honors Program and university goals and objectives; Coordinating the creation and functioning of the Honors Ambassadors program in support of Title III mission; Assisting with the convening of the Honors Academic Advisory Council (HAAC); and other related duties, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience. Recommended Competencies Knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles and practices; Knowledge of office procedures and practices, including record management; Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis; Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication; Knowledge of software and document management packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Sharepoint, DocuSign, Dropbox, Google Docs, etc; Knowledge of office computer systems and other office equipment (Windows compatible, Apple products, copier, fax, scanner, typewriter, calculator, etc.); Skill in effective leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and other information; Ability to handle inquiries in a courteous manner; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and interact well with others; Ability to take initiative and work proactively; Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data; Ability to devise and implement management systems; Ability to draft, compose and distribute correspondence in correct, standard business format; and, Ability to coordinate and prioritize work volume. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or above in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience or a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; Ability to instruct on the undergraduate level; Ability to conduct and present research; and ability to mentor honors students. Pay Plan This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
