GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This classification will be to manage the day-to-day operations of an assigned Arts Center, including supervising staff, and planning, implementing and evaluating arts programs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work, recruits, hires, and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that staff have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate. Updates and maintains the department programming calendar using a venue management software in coordination with other staff. Develops, plans, implements short- and long-range goals and objectives for arts programs, including classes, workshops, and performances: develops program guidelines, rules, and policies; analyzes and develops programs to address specific community needs, such as gender equality; conducts research; surveys patrons, etc. Evaluates the effectiveness of arts programs through reports and written evaluations, and determines methods to improve program effectiveness Organizes promotion of programming; registers participants; and attends meetings, forum,s and makes presentations. Develops partnerships with professional organizations, private service providers, businesses, school boards, community groups, program participants, and artists; attends meetings; promotes program activities; pursues projects; and establishes collaborative relationships .Receives and reviews proposals from artists and arts organizations: researches and evaluates proposals; determines impact on programming; approves or denies proposals based on evaluation Coordinates with staff on gallery exhibits, including selecting and preparing artwork for display, determining exhibition schedules, and installing artwork. Manages finances; develops and implements operations budget for assigned center: monitors expenditures against approved budget; analyzes revenue; tracks purchasing card transactions; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment, including maintenance, repairs and purchases.
Monitors facility usage and maintenance:
ensures the maintenance of the arts center; conducts regular inspections of facilities; schedules required maintenance and repairs for the facility; ensures proper risk management for facilities. Performs general customer service and administrative duties as required; receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints of citizens regarding arts programs, policies, and/or personnel; attends meetings; assists customers; prepares reports and correspondence; maintains documentation; enters computer data, etc. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: including timesheets, budget documentation, proposals, and reports; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, assessments, performance appraisals, logs and reports; compiles data for further processing or use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records. Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains audio and visual equipment, operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Communicates with supervisor, other employees, clients, third-party service contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or Art Administration, or a related field, required Five (5) years of experience in arts and cultural programming Three (3) years of experience in theatre management Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested edge, skills, and abilities for this job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Physical Requirements:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements has the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
