Department Information Department of Theatre and Dance Job Summary Columbus State University seeks an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Dance Preparatory Academy. This academy provides high-quality dance education for students ages 3 – 18 and adults in ballet, modern, and theatre dance forms. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the academy’s artistic and administrative operations, developing curriculum, hiring and managing faculty, fostering community engagement, and ensuring a high standard of dance training. Responsibilities Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum in ballet, modern, and theatre dance forms for students of varying skill levels.; Teach and choreograph as a member of the dance faculty.; Recruit, hire, and supervise dance faculty and staff, ensuring instructional excellence.; Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, enrollment, budgeting, marketing, and program development.; Foster relationships with the local community, schools, and arts organizations to promote the academy.; Organize student performances.; Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.; Collaborate with Columbus State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance to align the academy’s training with university standards.; Seek opportunities for grants, fundraising, and partnerships to enhance the program.; Stay current with trends in dance education and implement best practices in training and administration.
Required Qualifications Required Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance or Dance Education.; Demonstrated leadership experience in a dance school or educational setting.; Proficiency in teaching one or more of the following: ballet, modern, jazz, or tap to various levels and age groups.; Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills.; Experience managing faculty, program budgets, and community partnerships.; Problem-solving skills and a professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications include:
Master’s degree in Dance or Dance Education.; Experience developing pre-professional dance training programs.; Knowledge of university-affiliated dance programs and curriculum.
