We are seeking qualified Field Archaeologists for all phases of archaeological investigations on federal and state contracts on projects ongoing and upcoming nationwide. Applications for project-based work are being considered. Pay varies for part time project-based work depending on location and contract. Pay for federal contract work is based on SCA WD for that location, typically $18-27/hour plus up to $5.36 Health and Welfare (H&W) benefit (on federal projects). Lodging and meal stipend are based on contract GSA rates for project location. Lodging is always single occupancy and covered by ERG. Meal stipend is a direct deposit up front. We are a value-driven, employee first company. Positions require a minimum of a B.A. in anthropology, archaeology or a related field. Archaeologists will be expected to travel (time paid, no mileage) to the project location on the day fieldwork starts. Fieldwork will consist of a pedestrian survey with shovel testing and unit excavation. You must be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day for survey work, excavate shovel tests (35-50 cm in diameter and up to 100 cm deep), screen dirt from 10-20 cm levels through a 1/4 ” mesh screen, and use hand-held devices to record shovel test depth, soil characteristics and Munsell colors by level, and describe any artifacts found at any level. Typical surveys will involve documentation of 1 to 4 archaeological sites per project, and the ability to identify and describe precontact and historic period artifacts is expected. All field staff will be expected to carry their own measuring tape (metric required), trowels, backpack, water bottles and lunch/snacks.
