Primary Purpose of Position:
The North Carolina Museum of Art is seeking an enthusiastic team member to be part of our wonderful organization! The Assistant Director of Art Services and Installation at the NC Museum of Art (NCMA) Raleigh campus and may at times assist with exhibitions at the NCMA Winston-Salem campus. This position assists with overseeing and/or managing the day-to-day work of the art handling team in collaboration with the collections, registration, and conservation departments. The art handling team handles, installs, packs, unpacks, and transports art from the NCMA collection and all work on loan to the museum.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
As assigned and in partnership with the Director of Art Services and Installation, project-manages the safe art movement during installations and deinstallations of both NCMA and partner exhibitions on the Raleigh campus and as needed on the Winston-Salem campus.
Determines equipment needs and the crating and storing and safe handling of artworks.
Partners with the Registration department to coordinate shipping, receiving, unpacking, and returning of artwork.
Participates in the proper loading of art objects into trucks and ensures the safe transit and delivery in the Museum’s custom art delivery truck.
Exercises and communicates critical judgment to ensure the safety and security of objects.
Manages art storage areas to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for works of art.
Tracks art movements in TMS software and manages contractors as assigned.
Assists with general maintenance, cleaning of galleries, storage spaces, and upkeep of outdoor works as scheduled.
Position/Physical Requirements:
Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday – 40 hours. Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. (new standard)
Boom, fork, and lift training will be required.
Ability to work at heights up to 50 feet in a motorized personnel lift and up to 18 feet on a ladder with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to move or lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:
Demonstrated experience in art preparation and/or art handling techniques.
Demonstrated experience in carpentry and/or familiarity with hand tools and installation hardware.
Demonstrated experience handling 2D and/or 3D artworks.
Demonstrated experience installing and/or de-installing artwork.
Management Prefers:
Demonstrated ability to judge risk and effectively minimize the danger to valuable art.
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex projects and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated experience working in a museum setting. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor s degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History OR
Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution AND
two years of museum or related work; OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
