Position Summary:
Gallery Technician The Gallery Technician is responsible for assisting the Gallery Manager in all aspects of exhibition preparation. This includes, and is not limited to, prepping gallery spaces before and after exhibition, art handling, exhibition installation and deinstallation. This position is on an as-need basis throughout the year, based on the pre-planned exhibition schedule. Approximately 16 hours per month, flexible schedule, but occasional daytime, weekday hours required
Position Summary:
Acting Gallery Coordinator:
The Acting Gallery Coordinator is responsible for the management and execution of major exhibitions in the Schmidt and Cohen Galleries at GoggleWorks during the months of November, December (2025), and January (2026). This position will oversee all aspects of artwork handling, gallery operations, and artist relations, ensuring the highest standards of quality and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Artwork Handling and Management:
Coordinate and complete the installation and deinstallation of main gallery exhibitions based on exhibition schedule. Oversee artwork intake, safe storage, boxing, crating, and shipping.
Gallery and Exhibition Operations:
Manage communications with artists and partners. Lead the preparation of exhibitions for in-person gallery representation. Restore and maintain gallery spaces, meeting aesthetic and professional standards. Facilitate exhibition openings, award ceremonies, and related events.
Program and Department Development:
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and support team growth and best practice when able. Maintain clear, timely communication with staff, artists, and administration. Help position the gallery as an educational environment and community space.
Community Galleries:
Schedule installation and deinstallation dates for Community Gallery Rentals according to schedule availability and rental terms. Preparing materials for artists/exhibitors to successfully install their own Community Gallery show.
Qualifications:
Experience in gallery management, art handling, and exhibitions coordination. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment. A commitment to fostering an inclusive and community-centered exhibition program. Organizational Background Located in the former Willson Goggle Factory building, GoggleWorks is the largest community arts center of its kind in the country. The five-story, 145,000 square-foot complex features six large teaching studios in ceramics, hot and warm glass, metalsmithing, photography, and woodworking; 35 juried studios for artists and makers working in a variety of media; and dozens of music, arts, and other cultural organizations. The complex also includes several major exhibition galleries, a 131-seat theatre, a cafe and STORE featuring the work of over 200 artists from GoggleWorks and beyond. Reporting The Gallery Technician works independently and cooperatively with staff and reports directly to the Gallery Manager.
