Description The purpose of this position is to participate in the recording and indexing of documents received by the Register of Deeds, provide professional and courteous customer service at all times and perform related administrative work as required. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Examples of Duties The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Creates the final real estate index according to South Carolina code of laws for real estate indexing procedures.
Indexing/verifying all deeds, mortgages, plats, articles of incorporation, waivers, agreements, easements, affidavits, power of attorneys, right of ways, releases, assignments, bills of sale, federal tax liens, and any other legal documents related to the Register of Deeds to create a permanent real estate record for Beaufort County which is used for title research purposes in real estate transactions, other government entities and general public use. Analyzes legal documents submitted to ensure standard for recording is met as determined by state laws and local ordinances and records documents that meet standard.
Greets and assists the public by retrieving recorded information regarding family history, personal property, court/legal records, database records, electronic data sources, internet sites and other sources for requested information as needed.
Provides accurate information and assistance to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages as necessary.
Calculates, receipts, and records fees received; balances daily cash, checks, and reports.
Assists in training new staff in office procedures.
Performs related work as assigned. Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REOUIREMENTS
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supplemental Information All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
