Full Job Description Description:

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Student Programs. Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Director of Student Programs provides leadership in defining the scope and direction of the Museum’s onsite, outreach, and travel-based student programs. The Assistant Director works with the team to shape the strategy and operations for the Museum’s field trip experiences, student outreach, leadership initiatives, and student travel programs. The Assistant Director manages a team of educators developing programming for local and national students. This individual helps to set and achieve goals and manage work flow across the student programs team.

Requirements:

Manage a team of educators actively working with student audiences and supports the successful planning and execution of their projects, programs, and initiatives including but not limited to Louisiana History Day, Normandy Academy, Student Leadership Academy, and Billy Michal Student Leadership Awards. Work with the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Associate Vice President of Education to define and refine goals and priorities, ensure quality, accessibility of student programming. Support the team in developing a comprehensive strategy for the Museum’s field trip, onsite, outreach, and student travel programs to meet goals outlined in the Museum’s strategic plan. Invest in and develop staff by delegating responsibility, evaluating performance, encouraging professional development, and creating opportunities for leadership and creative collaborations within the department and throughout the Museum. Work with Institutional Advancement Department to create funding proposals for student initiatives and support student-components of fundraising events such as the American Spirit Awards. Participate in assigned task forces, staff committees, projects, assignments, tasks, etc. as directed by the Director of Teaching and Learning or the Associate Vice President of Education. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in history, public history, museum education, education or related field. Minimum two years of experience managing a team. Minimum of five years’ experience working with elementary and/or secondary school students and teachers in a museum, school, or other educational setting. Experience with leading students on travel trips, domestically or internationally is a plus. Strong planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience developing programs for students. Familiarity with both state-level and national standards across disciplines. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Willingness to work overtime during special events or heavy programmatic or visitation periods or to meet deadlines. Interested applicants should apply via the Museum’s career page.
