• Major Responsibilities Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, work closely with the Assistant Commissioner for Public Programs and the Chief of Programming & Strategic Management for Recreation to perform very responsible arts programming work for the Recreation Division. Provide dynamic leadership for the creation, development and implementation of innovative arts and cultural programs and partnerships. Provide leadership to a small team of full-time or seasonal staff as well as borough Arts, Culture, & Fun liaisons, interns, volunteers and program partners. Coordinate and manage special events and programs that showcase the rich cultural landscape of New York City, including coordinating event logistics, equipment needs, staffing, and creating run of show documents to deliver vibrant, inclusive and dynamic experiences. Execute internal and external engagement/promotion plans for upcoming events; recruiting participants, designing curricula, creating fliers, promoting opportunities, and documenting program success. Document programs via photography and program summaries, engage in program evaluation, data collection, program reporting and analysis. Manage valuable existing partnerships and assist in the initiation of new ones that will further enrich and diversify programmatic offerings. Write program proposals, as well as researching and applying for grant opportunities. Provide administrative and operational leadership to other Recreation efforts, as directed. Develop and deliver on-going staff development training and opportunities for all staff. Oversee the monitoring of program records such as attendance data, weekly reports, timesheets, snack reports and expenditures. Ensure high program standards via site visits, audits, parental feedback and interviews. Assist with special projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above. Preferred Skills 1. Familiarity and/or experience with special events, arts administration, arts education, performing arts, visual arts or programming film, literature or fine arts. 2. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, writing and time management skills. 3. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 4. Proficiency in Office 365. 5. Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. 6. Valid New York State driver license.
