The Band Teacher will direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music and marching band for Midfield City Schools. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, regions and state recognition. Guide students through musical practice, giving them a chance to use musical instruments and their own voices and bodies to generate musical sounds, melodies and harmonies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage students in musical concepts through history and theory of music. Guide students through the process of reading musical notes. Guide students through musical practice, providing them with opportunities to use musical instruments and their own voices and bodies to generate musical sounds, melodies and harmonies. Provide basic vocal and instrumental instruction for a variety of musical styles. Prepare students for participation in the solo and ensemble events by assisting in literature selection, performance preparation, and in securing an accompanist, if needed. Prepare students and participate in All City and District-Wide Showcase Performances. Participate in curriculum development programs, such as drama club and exhibits. Evaluate student’s performance and growth in knowledge for progress reports and report cards. Maintain professional competence through professional development. Maintain a familiarity with current educational issues and trends. Use current technology for instruction and management purposes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce and perform works of art through music expression. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws Reports absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
Qualifications:
1. Valid Alabama Professional Certification in Educat ion . 2. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Music Education from an accredited college or university. 3. Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements.

Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina and acuity are required to perform job responsibilities.
Salary:
To be determined commensurate with Midfield City School salary matrix, credentials and experience.
