Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Other duties may be assigned)
1. Works within the Music Department to develop, plan, and implement a sequential
curriculum, aligned with the Maine Learning Results, for the grade levels he/she is
teaching.
2. Develops and presents specific lesson plans, using a variety of means, including
lectures, projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library
resources, computers and the Internet.
3. Prepares and supervises students for public performance experiences.
4. Prepares assignments and tests for in-school preparation and homework. Monitors,
assists, corrects and grades student performances.
5. Maintains order in the classroom, and administers discipline when necessary to
achieve proper behavior.
6. Shares, with other staff duties in the lunchroom, recess and/or bus arrival/dismissal.
7. Develops a variety of assessments to measure student progress. Provides timely
feedback to students and parents on this work.
8. Counsels students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.
9. Maintains an inventory of all school owned musical equipment.
10. Prepares the budget requests for the building principal for the music program.
11. Maintains records of academic performance, attendance and social acclimation.
12. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents.
