Part Time Position Summary:

The Adjunct Piano Instructor/Collaborative Pianist will work in the Music Department of the Division of Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Science, giving weekly Applied Piano Lessons to piano minor students. The Applied Piano Lessons are designed to help music students pass the Piano Proficiency Guideline Exams. The Adjunct Piano Instructor/Collaborative Pianist will also provide accompaniment for: 1) Choral Society, meeting on Mondays 7:00pm-9:00pm. 2) Instrumental and vocal students for lessons, juries, and recitals. 3) Rehearsals for Christmas at Campbell and Choral Society Concerts. Teaching experience, commitment to excellence, and innovation in undergraduate teaching are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and manage teaching materials from the Piano Proficiency Guidelines and selected textbook provided by the Director of Piano Studies
Administer weekly assignments that permit measurement of knowledge, abilities, and/or performance relative to passing the Guideline Exam
Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center and well as Campbell’s Self Service portal
Maintain timely communications with students, staff, and supervisors at all times
Interact with students in a positive manner, listen effectively, and field questions pertaining to subject matter
Assess participation and performance of students
Administer exams according to university guidelines Complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner
Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security including FERPA, and other state and federal regulations
Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in Piano Performance, Collaborative Piano, or Music Education is required.
Minimum of 2-year experience working in higher education as an instructor and collaborative pianist is required.
Minimum of 5-year experience of private piano teaching is required.
DMA in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano, or Artistic Diploma in Piano is desired.
Experience working as an orchestra/large ensemble pianist desired.
Certification or verifiable education, experience and/or expertise in Music Education is desired.
Experience teaching piano group classes is desired.
Demonstrated abilities for working in an academic setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to sight-read effectively
Familiarity with standard choral literature
Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written media
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and common methods of digital communication including web/text/chat platforms
Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, collegiately, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public
Exercise independent judgement and maintain strict confidentiality as necessary
