Lower School Music Teacher – Part Time (0.225 FTE) Approximately 9+ hours per week for the 2025-2026 school year.
Scope of Role:
To carry out the musical educational program consistent with Cape Fear Academy’s philosophy and mission statement maintain high level of professionalism and support of the school at all times.
Major Responsibilities:
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Plan and teach effective lessons based on best practices and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Music in all lower school grades. b. Teach music fundamentals, music appreciation, and note reading. c. Introduce students to different styles, composers, and periods of music through various activities. d. Use a variety of instruments and teaching tools on all grade levels. e. Incorporate movement and dance into lessons. f. Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement cross-disciplinary learning opportunities. g. Communicate with parents as necessary.
EXTRA ACTIVITIES
a. Grandparents Day and Halloween Sing-Along (Director) b. Grade level presentations as assigned (Support) c. Coordinate and organize all aspects of two talent shows each school year.
RECORD KEEPING
a. Grade each student on effort and content for triannual report cards. b. Keep Director informed of major behavior, social, or emotional problems of students. OTHER a. Actively collaborate with colleagues on performances including integration and scheduling. b. Carry out any other tasks and duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of music pedagogy. Ability to play and teach a variety of classroom instruments. Basic piano knowledge. Drama experience. Ability to plan and direct large-scale performances.
Education:
Bachelors in Music Education or related degree. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Three or more years of classroom teaching experience.
Equivalency:
Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for the majority of a normal workday. Pull/push/carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment. Must be able to see and have close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear sufficiently in order to communicate with others and hear vocalizations within a classroom. Must be able to speak clearly and loudly enough to be understood. Must be able to work in an environment with moderate noise level.
