QUALIFICATIONS

+ Valid New York State Certification in Music + Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree with a major in music + Preferred concentration in vocal music with proficient piano skills

POSITION SUMMARY

To plan, organize and implement an engaging music program for students in grades K-4 in a learning environment that guides and encourages all students to develop skills and an appreciation for music. To collaborate with colleagues in instructing arts-integrated, arts-infused, and interdisciplinary lessons that support grade-level expeditions and learning. To build community through engagement in performances, community meetings, and fieldwork.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Plans, prepares and delivers highly engaging, music curriculum and lessons, aligned with NYS arts (music) standards. + Serves as a valuable member of our Community Meeting monthly performances with various groups of students (preparing, practicing & performing) + Work collaboratively with the K-12 Music department to ensure winter and/or spring concerts are held + Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students. + Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding using assessment data to inform and differentiate instruction. + Establishes and upholds school-wide routines, protocols, and standards of student behavior to provide a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. + Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. + Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required. + Selects and requisitions books, musical instruments, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. + Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. + Maintains frequent communication with students, students’ families, colleagues, and other school stakeholders. + Collaborates with colleagues and support staff to identify student needs and develop strategies to address academic, behavioral, and health-related challenges .

+ Foster a love, appreciation and creativity in regards to music in foundational ways for all students + Work with outside Community Partners in order to perform in authentic spaces + Instruct with sensitivity to different learning styles and a commitment to the success of all children. + Work in a highly collaborative environment to share best practices, ensure student success, and implement interdisciplinary instruction. + Work with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs. + Demonstrates the ability to modify and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including accommodations and supports outlined in students’ IEPs + Communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders to support and develop a whole-school community. + Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to stakeholders. + Participate in relevant and appropriate professional activities. + Perform additional duties as assigned.
