Join us to work hard,do good, and make a lasting difference! Job Description UncommonSchools seeks an accomplished, passionate Music Teacher to join ourfaculty. The position represents an exciting opportunity to join agrowing program that is dedicated to developing excellence inmusical talent throughout the K-12 education of our scholars. Ourgeneral music pedagogy is grounded in the Orff and Kodalyapproaches. Our music program includes singing, movement, playinginstruments, and music literacy in every class, with studentsengaged in as much active music-making as possible. Instrumentalinstruction includes recorder (in third grade), unpitchedpercussion, and Orff instruments.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Implementnetwork-provided curricula and activities to meet music-specificacademic standards; Teach all music-based content including but notlimited to singing, dance and movement, elementary instrumental(recorder, Orff instruments, drumming) music; Develop musicliteracy lesson components related to teaching rhythm and pitchnotation, solfege reading and singing, improvisation andcomposition High-level collaboration with Enrichment teachers andDirector of Operations to create and plan for multiple performancesthroughout the school year Design and implement assessments thatmeasure progress towards academic standards; Support schoolinstructional and cultural needs including but not limited toacademic teaching coverage, test proctoring, daily systems duties,additional supportive duties Participate in collaborativecurriculum development, department activities, and school-widefunctions; Develops strong classroom management skills congruentwith Uncommon Schools system of management; Be accountable forstudents’ mastery of musical standards; Communicate effectivelywith students, families, and colleagues; and Participate in anannual three-week staff orientation and training. QualificationsBachelor of Arts of Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education orPerformance Experience teaching general and vocal music toelementary aged children; Experience with the Kodaly and Orffapproaches. Levels training in one or both pedagogies is highlypreferred; Ability to manage and direct large groups of students;Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Valid StateCertification is helpful but not required; Piano and vocalproficiency, knowledge of recorder, basic guitar. Additionalinstrument proficiency is helpful. Belief in and alignment withUncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy isnon-negotiable; Experience performing and/or teaching music ishighly preferred; Minimum of two years teaching experience in anurban public school or charter school setting preferred; Drive toimprove the minds and lives of students in and out of theclassroom; Proven track-record of high achievement in theclassroom; Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects; andEvidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player.

Our compensation philosophy values equity &fairness and attracting & retaining top talent. CompensationCompensation for this role is between $50,000 to $64,700. Startingpay is determined using various factors including but not limitedto relevant full-time teaching experience, educationcertifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidateswithout full-time Teaching experience will likely have a startingsalary of $50,000.
