What We’re Looking For:

Strong instrumental or vocal skills Ability to work with students of all ages and skill levels A positive, energetic, and patient attitude Weekend Availability (Preferably Saturdays from 9-5 pm) Like our students, our instructors come from all different backgrounds. Many of our instructors have music degrees and experience teaching lessons, however, others started their careers with us as skilled musicians who are just beginning their teaching careers. We believe that given the right training and opportunities, a motivated musician can develop into an excellent instructor. Here’s what some of our instructors have to say: “I find teaching at Sunburst School of Music thoroughly enjoyable. The dedicated administration staff works hard to ensure things run smoothly at this thriving institution of Pittsburgh. The way they have it all set up, I’m able to come to work and focus on teaching the students because they’ve got me covered with scheduling and client relations. The part I enjoy the most besides teaching is interacting with the staff-admin and teachers alike. We smile a lot at Sunburst because it’s a caring and accepting work environment where we can be ourselves.” -Andy N., Drum Instructor “Sunburst is home to some of the best people I know. Many of the staff are close friends, and on the occasions, we get to play together, my rockin’ band mates. The administration team is extremely diligent with bringing in and keeping new students, and patient and understanding with your scheduling needs. The facilities are top-notch for what I teach, drums— soundproof rooms, Yamaha drums, and a PA system. And the students are diverse and inspiring. Squirrel Hill is a multicultural neighborhood. You will enjoy teaching students, comprised equally of adults and children, from all over the world.” -Kevin L., Sr. Instructor “When I started at Sunburst, I had a wealth of knowledge but very little practical experience in my field. Sunburst knew this and was willing to take me on as an instructor and help me develop professionally. In an industry where getting your foot in the door can be tricky, I appreciated that. I learned from my fellow instructors and now I feel confident in my ability as a teacher. At Sunburst I don’t need to worry about administration, scheduling, or marketing. They have an office team that handles all of that so I can focus on my students and make their experience as rewarding as possible.” -Sam L., Sr. Instructor “Teaching at Sunburst has always been a fun, exciting, and rewarding experience. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by attentive and encouraging colleagues who make me feel seen and supported. The staff is intentional about creating a welcoming and affirming environment, making Sunburst a truly enjoyable place to work. -Dr. Bank L., Sr.
