AM Position Summary:
Knoxville Montessori School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Violin Teacher to lead small group lessons for elementary and adolescent aged students in a nurturing, respectful, and student-centered environment. This part-time role supports the school’s broader commitment to cultivating creativity, self-expression, and musical literacy within a Montessori framework. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, structure, and a love of music-making to young learners, while tailoring instruction to meet a variety of skill levels. Teaching occurs during our before-school hours, and the program is intended to foster both musical growth and joyful community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach small group violin lessons to children ages 6-18 in a developmentally appropriate, engaging manner. Create a consistent, welcoming routine that supports student confidence and musical growth. Foster foundational music skills such as posture, bow hold, tuning, rhythm, and listening. Differentiate instruction to support a range of experience levels within a group. Provide clear expectations for home/school practice, while keeping the tone supportive and positive. Communicate professionally and positively with school staff and families as needed. Maintain a clean, safe learning environment and help students care for instruments and materials.
Qualifications:
Experience teaching violin to children in a group setting (preferably ages 6-18). Strong knowledge of violin technique and pedagogy (e.g., Suzuki, Kodály, traditional methods). Ability to create a calm, respectful, and joyful learning space. Punctuality, dependability, and effective communication skills. Must pass a background check and meet all school safety requirements. Bachelor’s degree in music or music education preferred, but equivalent experience considered.
Schedule & Compensation:
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM Hourly pay based on experience
