Job Description

The Sacristan assists the Campus Ministry staff in creating a vibrant, liturgical and worship ministry for the Barry University Community. The Sacristan is primarily responsible for attending to the details of liturgical and worship events in the Cor Jesu Chapel and Barry University campus and assisting in the maintenance of the Sacristy and Chapel, under the direction of the Campus Ministry staff. Assist the Campus Ministry staff with the Barry University liturgical and worship events (Departmental, Divisional and University-wide), with special emphasis on weekday Masses, Sunday Masses, and the Liturgical Seasons. Set-up and clean-up of worship events in the Cor Jesu Chapel (vessels, linens, candles, etc.), including Catholic Mass, Praise and Worship, Interfaith Prayer Services, etc.; Provide hospitality during worship events, including check-in of liturgical ministers (Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, etc.); Assists as Acolyte at Mass, when applicable; Participates as a member of the liturgical preparation team; Assist with liturgical minister training; Operates the Chapel Carillon when requested Works with the Campus Ministry Administrative Assistant, and the Coordinator of Worship, to coordinate use, care, and maintenance of Cor Jesu Chapel; Works with the Campus Ministry staff to make sure that Chapel schedule is up to date, and events have been communicated with Conferences and Events, and Public Safety. Assist with simple maintenance and cleaning of worship items and Campus Ministry items in Cor Jesu Chapel and Sacristy. Assist Coordinator of Worship, and Campus Ministry staff with keeping track, maintenance and inventory of worship/sacristy supplies; Maintain oversight of replacement of regular worship items (e.g. microphone batteries and replacement in microphones, sanctuary candles, watering of plants, etc.); Assist with Art and Environment of Chapel for liturgical seasons; Assist with cleaning and ironing of altar linens. Carries out other essential responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Worship, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Vice-President of Mission and Student Engagement and the Office of the President/ Assist with liturgy communications and office work, when applicable; Collaborate with Campus Ministry staff to publicize worship and liturgical events; Participates at Divisional and University events a requested by Coordinator of Worship, University Chaplain and the Director, Campus Ministry Performs other duties as required.
