Provide supervision and guidance to campers, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. This position demands the completed attention of the successful candidate during the entire duration of the camp (24 hours a day). SYMS Counselors will frequently communicate with the Head Counselors, Dean of Campers, and the SYMS Director about all camper needs and concerns. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a background check and training in the protection of minors. Duties/Responsibilities SYMS training and planning (5%)
SYMS Counselors will be required to attend training and planning sessions in the spring of the academic year and the day prior to camp. In addition, counselors may be required to assist in planning for camp as directed by the Dean of Campers or the Camp Director.
Camper Supervision (80%)
Reside in UNH dormitories with campers and attend to their physical, mental, and emotional wellness, providing supervision, guidance, and redirection as needed. Supervise groups of students (called “pods”) as they move across campus. Report all concerns to the Head Counselors or Dean of Campers as appropriate.
Participation in camp activities (15%)
Complete other assigned duties, such as participation in musical ensembles, assisting faculty with classes by taking attendance, or other administrative tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Undergraduate degree.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience as a musician at the collegiate level.
Prior experience as a camp counselor or other roles supervising minors is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants with undergraduate degrees in music or the field of education are particularly desirable.
