Adapted Physical Education Teacher Supervisor:
Principal, Exceptional Education Director, Assistant Director of Exceptional Education Job Goal:
Develop and implement a physical education instructional program for students with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university. Valid Alabama physical education or special education teaching certificate. Minimum of twelve (12) semester hours or twenty (20) quarter hours of coursework in Adapted Physical Education Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) and learning needs of assigned students. Knowledge of procedures, practices, materials and equipment required to provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Ability to develop and maintain required records and reports. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal and human relations skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Mobility, strength, agility and visual acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Provides assessment of assigned students’ physical education needs. Prepares and implements gross motor adapted physical education programs as outlined in assigned students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Trains other school system personnel to assist with the implementation of the adapted physical education program activities. Attends and participates in staff meetings, parent conferences, and/or IEP meetings as required. Assists with the selection of equipment and other instructional material as needed. Participates in personal professional development activities, training sessions, and committee meetings as requested. Models professionalism and high ethical standards. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Uses collaboration skills to work as a productive team member. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
