Job Summary:
The K-8 Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for instructing students in health and fitness-related topics, promoting healthy habits, and providing opportunities for physical activity and skill development. The position requires a thorough knowledge of child development, fitness, health and wellness, and educational pedagogy. The K-8 PE Teacher will work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to design and implement high-quality Physical Education programs that align with curricular expectations and foster a lifelong appreciation and enthusiasm for physical activity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and implement Physical Education lessons that align with curriculum standards and promote healthy habits and an active lifestyle. Teach fundamental motor skills, strategies, and techniques for individual, dual or team sports, and provide opportunities for students to improve their physical fitness and coordination. Develop and implement assessment tools to track student progress and provide feedback to both students and parents or guardians. Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive behavior among students. Encourage and promote healthy habits and behaviors, such as proper nutrition, sleep, and exercise. Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to integrate Physical Education into the overall curriculum and promote an understanding of its importance for lifelong health and wellness. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, best practices, and developments in the field of Physical Education. Maintain accurate attendance records, grades, and other required documentation related to Physical Education. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to discuss student progress and provide updates on Physical Education programming. Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or related field. Valid state teaching certification or license. Strong knowledge of child development, health, fitness, and wellness. Ability to design and deliver age-appropriate Physical Education lessons that align with curriculum standards. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive and inclusive instructional environment.
