JOB GOAL
Create a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in subject areas. NC Teaching License in grade levels and areas assigned or have qualifications to obtain a NC teaching license. Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards. Pass Criminal Background Check Zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor Dynamic character, personality, flexible, team player and proper social capability to relate effectively with diverse staff, students, parents and community within a rigorous K-8 academic environment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by Lakeside Charter Academy and other appropriate learning activities. Work cooperatively with other teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program. Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with NC standards; provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. Provide appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Maintains control of storage and use of school property. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day. Models non discriminatory practices in all activities. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PTO, student clubs and after-school activities. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to manage equipment, tools and classroom, and storage spaces. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Requires the ability to talk and hear. Ability to manage instructional time. Ability to manage student behavior. Ability to consult with parents, teachers and the community to enhance the learning of students. Ability to monitor student performance. Ability to interact within the educational environment. Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
10 Months, unless otherwise specified.
