Position Summary The Healthy Living / Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness, personal wellness, and emotional well-being for students in grades K-8. This individual fosters students’ understanding of the relationship between a healthy lifestyle and physical activity while guiding them in developing positive social skills, personal accountability, and teamwork. The teacher will design and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with Pennsylvania state standards and MRCS’s Montessori-based educational approach. The ideal candidate embraces MRCS’s mission and vision and is committed to continuous learning, collaboration, and upholding a respectful, engaging, and student-centered environment.
Education/Certification Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Health and Physical Education, or related field.
Certification:
Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification in Health and Physical Education (K-8 or appropriate level). Core Responsibilities Academic Instruction Plan and implement engaging daily and weekly physical education and health lessons. Incorporate Montessori principles by encouraging independence, personal responsibility, and student choice where appropriate. Integrate health education topics including nutrition, hygiene, emotional well-being, human development, and wellness strategies. Adapt lessons and activities to meet the diverse physical and developmental needs of all learners. Student Development and Engagement Promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and healthy lifestyle choices. Support students in developing appropriate emotional and social adjustment through cooperative games and team-based activities. Assist students with their academic and personal growth through positive reinforcement, modeling, and mentoring. Classroom & Environment Management Maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive environment during all instructional activities. Demonstrate grace and courtesy in all communications, in line with MRCS culture. Guide students in maintaining the Montessori principles of an Ordered, Organized, and Beautiful environment. Assist with transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal as needed. Collaboration & Communication Coordinate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration to support whole-child development. Attend IEP meetings and collaborate on accommodations for students with individualized needs. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom updates. Record Keeping & Compliance Track daily attendance and maintain records of student progress and performance. Document communication with parents, transportation plans, assessments, and interventions as needed. Professional Expectations Participate in ongoing professional development related to physical education, health, and the Montessori philosophy. Demonstrate positive problem-solving, open-mindedness, teamwork, and accountability in all professional interactions. Perform additional duties as assigned by the school principal to support the MRCS mission. This position qualifies for PSERS (Teachers Retirement System)
